I'm a three-week-old baby and already Mommy and Daddy are experimenting on me! Mommy says it's something called the "scientific method" but I don't see that they're approaching this in any scientifically rigorous way. They are basically just testing out the idea that I don't get enough sleep and that I go into my screaming fits because I'm overtired, and that the way to minimize the total amount of time crying in a day is actually to put me to bed when I'm not overtired and let me fall asleep or stay asleep on my own. In the past, they've responded to me and picked me up immediately whenever I cried or whimpered. They rocked me, put me in the swing, sung to me, or tried a number of other things. The problem is, they just keep me from falling and staying asleep. Most days, I am awake from around 9am to 6pm, and then crash until about 10pm. Today they are trying the strategy of letting me cry a little to fall asleep so that I don't get overtired.
This is a picture of me semi-asleep. A moment ago I had my eyes semi-open but I wasn't crying.
Mommy says she would welcome any tips/thoughts for preventing babies from getting overtired and or on minimizing the total amount of crying in a day. She says this would be a "win-win" for everyone. If you have some advice, please write a "Comment" to this entry.
Vacuum cleaning to minimize crying is what I've heard
ReplyDeleteThat's a good thought. I've heard about that and hair dryers. I've tried the hair dryer with initially good results, but it no longer works. Thanks for the reminder about the vacuum. Will give that a try.
ReplyDeleteGuess Uncle Mark and Aunt Jen need to come for a visit. Hope you are all doing well, love the updates and especially the pictures. Talk with you soon and will be up for a visit soon.
ReplyDeleteLove Aunt Jen
We'd love to have you guys back soon. You seem to have a way with babies, and Jordan settled down and fell asleep in your arms pretty quickly, which was amazing. Next time we'll take some pictures of you together.
