Messy McGee

I am a messy eater and that's just the way I like it!

Baby Yoga

I told Mommy to title this blog post "baby yoga", following the suggestion of one of my biggest fans, Aunt Joyce. This is a creative title which is descriptive of the motions I like making now while doing tummy time. Mommy and Daddy also think it's like doing toe pushups.

Baby Bins

Mommy and Daddy got these convenient storage bins. I don't think the bins are designed for babies, no matter what Daddy says.

Meal Plan #3 - Toes!

First, I ate cereal. Then, carrots. Now, toes!

Mmmm... Carrots

I graduated to real vegetables yesterday! Only some of the carrots landed on my face. In two more days, I get to eat peas. Mommy and Daddy tell me vegetables are good, but I think they're holding out on something tastier.

My First Haircut

Mommy and Daddy said I'm too little to go to the salon, so Daddy gave me a haircut. I don't think he's licensed or anything!

Competitive Eater

I finished my entire meal this evening in less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds. That's a faster rate than Daddy can eat at!

Ring Around the Rosy

I have a ring around my arm! It looks like a swimmer ring, except it's only on one side and more importantly, I'm not swimming. :)

Hungry, Hungry Hippo

I ate real food for the second time today. I'll eat anything I can get my hands on, even the bowl! Some of the food even went in my tummy.

Escaped!

I'm pretty mobile now. This morning, I easily and quickly escaped the padded mat area on the wood floor in the living room. Later in the day, while I was on the floor in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom, I turned myself around 180 degrees and moved three feet in less than a minute when I saw that Mommy was reading a book on the floor. I really wanted to eat the book!

Cereal

After the pediatrician greenlighted solids for me, Daddy went to Whole Foods to pick up some rice cereal. He got me organic, whole grain brown rice cereal. Most of what Mommy and Daddy fed me actually got swallowed, and I finished the whole amount that was prepared for me and could have eaten more. Mommy and Daddy think this first solids meal was a success!

Six Month Checkup

Today I went to the pediatrician's office for my six month checkup. I'm now 28 in. tall (>95 percentile), weigh 18 lbs. 12 oz. (90 to 95%), and have a head circumference of 17 1/8 in. (75 %). Mommy pointed out to the doctor that I've only gained about 1 lb. 6 oz. since my four month checkup, but the doctor said that was fine, and was expected for breastfed babies. She said that the growth curve for breastfed babies is steeper early on than for formula-fed babies, but then becomes less steep. The doctor also said that I can start on solid foods now. She recommended rice cereal as my first food, and discussed how to prepare and give it to me. She said after I get used to the rice cereal, I can try other foods, like pureed vegetables and fruits.

The doctor asked Mommy and Daddy questions about my development, such as "Does Jordan hold toys and transfer them from one hand to the other?", "does she roll?", and "does she try standing and holding up her own weight when pulled to a standing position?" On the last question, Mommy told the doctor that I sometimes would kick my legs, but that I was a bit lazy. The doctor pulled me to a standing position, and I kicked once but relaxed my legs right away. The doctor laughed and said it does look like I'm lazy. She also tried pulling me to a sitting position, but I did my usual jelly arms and didn't try to bear weight on my own.

The doctor looked inside my mouth and said that I was about to get my teeth. She pointed to the elevated bumps on the front of my bottom gums. Yay, watch out world, here I come with teeth! :)

But then came the bad part. I got an oral vaccine and three shots this time. That's one more than last time, since Mommy and Daddy also made me get the flu shot this time around, on the doctor's recommendation. I was very mad at the shots and took some time to quiet down, even though Mommy fed me right away to help soothe me. But I was ok after a while. The picture below was taken after I received my shots, while we waited in the examination room for the nurse to come back and make sure I wasn't allergic to the flu vaccine.

Play Date

Today Mommy took me to a play date with the kids of her friend Mary who Mommy met during her friend Kai's baby shower. My new friends are Evelyn and Skyler. Evelyn is so big, she's practically an adult since she's two-and-a-half years old! :) Skyler is also older than me. He's seven months old and can sit up all by himself. I had fun playing with them!

Half-Year Birthday

I'm six months old today! Mommy and Daddy say I'm a big girl now.

Mommy even thinks I have a bit of the rebellious, devil-may-care teenage look already. She says the phrase "rebel without a cause" springs to mind.

Frosty the Snowman is Tasty!

I like eating my Frosty the Snowman musical book. The book is a gustatory, visual, and auditory delight! I like eating Frosty so much that my mouth is crooked while chewing on him.

Do you see the Russell Crowe expression on my face? The book is mine, not yours, to eat! Back off, I warn you, before I go Gladiator on you! :)

Visit by Grandpa and Grandma Meyers

Grandpa and Grandma Meyers came by to visit this afternoon. Here's a picture of me with my grandmas.

The Monkey Sleeps Tonight, Part II

I like to sleep on my knees and elbows and with my butt sticking up. Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma Lai think it's hilarious. They don't know the truth: it's incredibly comfortable! :)

Play Pretend

I like to pretend I'm skydiving. It's fun! Mommy and Daddy's skydiving instructors would be proud of my form.

Skydiving Superbaby

I'm practicing to go skydiving! Grandma Lai did a great job with the video shooting.

Aquarium Visit

I had my first museum experience today. Mommy, Daddy, Grandma Lai and I went to the Shedd Aquarium. There were a lot of people there even though it was New Years Day.

I liked watching the turtles swim in their tank.

I thought the penguins were also fun to look at, and rather funny-looking, too! They look like they are wearing formal tuxedos, but the incongruence with their style of walking, which is really a waddle, is quite comical.

Daddy carried me around in the Baby Bjorn so that I can see the fish and other aquatic life!
