Burp Time with Daddy

I make strange faces when being burped. I definitely almost always wake up. That tempts Mommy and Daddy into not burping me after feeding me. But then I often spit-up, sometimes multiple times, and that wakes me up, too. It's a Catch-22.

Poop Machine

This is my fourth full trash bag of dirty diapers and I've only been home for 12 days!

Caterpillar

Mommy and Daddy have me swaddled real snug. Don't I look like a caterpillar?

Hair Dryer Lullaby

I've been fussy and haven't been able to fall asleep all morning. In the middle of my latest screaming fit of fussiness, Mommy finally plugged in the hair dryer. She had read a popular baby book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block", where a pediatrician talks about how the first 3 months after birth is the missing fourth trimester and that babies are fussy because they miss being in the womb. His solution: replicate conditions in the womb as much as possible. Apparently, it is loud in the womb with the constant wooshing of blood through arteries and heartbeats. He suggests turning on vacuum cleaners or hair dryers to calm fussy babies down. Mommy read the book with some skepticism, noting the lack of clinical research and scientific techniques. However, she gave it a try today. Within 15 seconds of the hair dryer being turned on, I quieted down. Mommy doesn't know if it's a coincidence or actually works... and I'm not going to tell her either!

My Favorite Picture with Daddy

This is an "old" picture of Daddy and me. It was taken on Wedn., July 14, right after I was born. I would have posted it sooner but I didn't know about this picture earlier. Daddy doesn't look anywhere near 40 years old in this picture, does he?

Playtime in My Gymini

Spending some time in the Gymini. Everywhere I look there is toy. I actually find the TV stand much more interesting, and am staring at that in this picture.

My Car Seat: That's How I Roll

I'm getting used to my car seat. I don't mind it as much anymore. I slept in my car seat most of the way back from the doctor's office.

The diaper cloth around my head is not my idea of high fashion. Mommy and Daddy put it there to prevent my head from flopping around in the car seat since I'm still small. I wish they could have spent a minute finding something more fashionable, though. :)

Second Doctor's Visit

Mommy and Daddy took me for my two-week checkup visit with the doctor this morning. I was pretty good and didn't cry most of the time. But they were also nicer to me and didn't try to pull any fast ones like taking my temperature from places they wouldn't take from adults.

The doctor measured me. I'm 22 and 1/2 inches tall. Mommy asked if I really grew 2 inches in 2 weeks. The doctor explained that sometimes they don't measure very carefully in the delivery room for new babies. So I could have been more than 20 and 1/2 inches when I was born. The doctor also weighed me. I'm 9 lbs. 10.5 oz. now, a full pound more than when I was born and a full pound heavier than last Tuesday's doctor's visit. No wonder Mommy says I'm more and more tiring to hold all day long.

Boppy Sleeping

Grandma and Grandpa Meyers came to see me again this afternoon. I liked being held by Grandma Meyers while I slept. When I woke up and after I was fed, I fell asleep on the Boppy. It's becoming one of my favorite places to nap.

Lots of Lint

Lots of lint was left in the dryer by the last batch of laundry, which included the new large receiving blankets and the cloth diaper/all-purpose burp cloths that Mommy ordered for me from Babiesrus.com. The lint hanging off the dryer door is the overflow from the lint screen which was completely full.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

It's Daddy's 40th birthday. Mommy and I got him a card and some of his favorite kinds of chocolates from Blommer's chocolate factory. Even though they are just a block away, yesterday was the first time Mommy ever went inside their store since they are only open weekdays and early on Saturday morning. Mommy and Daddy always talked about going there sometime, but only when I showed up on the scene are they carpe-ing the diem.

With Mommy's help, I also made Daddy a collage of pictures of us together these last two weeks, the first two weeks of my life. It hasn't arrived yet, but here is an image of it:

Mommy's Goodness Bunny

I must be a very good baby since I'm mommy's goodness bunny. She says, "Oh, my goodness, bunny!" often, especially during diaper changing sessions.

Poopocalypse

This afternoon I had a giant poop session that Daddy called Poopocalypse. He was changing my diaper and was in between swapping a clean diaper for the dirty diaper when I let loose with more juicy poop. It started flowing backwards on the changing table towards the middle of my back. It got my onesie soaked with poop. He and Mommy were looking at the mess with consternation and trying to figure out how best to deal with it. They were quickly cleaning it up and just as they got done cleaning up the surface of the changing table, I let loose with yet more juicy goodness. I heard Mommy exclaim "I've got Poopocalypse on my hands!" and she went to wash her hands. Daddy and Mommy finally got the bottom of the changing table cleaned off and put me in a clean onesie but then discovered I had spat up all over it so they had to change my outfit again.

After they were done, there was a nice little pile of onesies, diaper cloths, blankets, and other stuff to add to the laundry.

Dreamland Thinker

Like Rodin's The Thinker, but lying down and asleep, pondering my dreams.

Spit-up Hair

My hair is matted from multiple episodes of spit-up. Mommy says it makes me look like a punk rocker. I don't think they smell like spit-up though, unless they've been partying a little too much. I sure need a bath soon.

In the Baby Bjorn with Daddy

Daddy and I test drove the Baby Bjorn carrier that Aunt Sarah got me. It's a nice ride when Daddy walks quickly.

But I don't like it so much when I'm being buckled in or taken out.

The Monkey Sleeps This Morning...

...riff on "the lion sleeps tonight".

The Thing

I have rolls of fat on my arms that make my arms big and creased. So Mommy says I have arms like the rock man from the Fantastic Four.

That's mean, Mommy! Why doesn't she compare me to fluffy bunnies instead?

Overtired

It's 4am. I've been up since 10:30pm last night. Mommy is begging me to fall asleep and stay asleep rather than wake up every time she or Daddy tries to put me in bed. But I'm just an overtired baby and it's hard for me to stay asleep when they move me.

Permission to Multi-task

I let Daddy multi-task. He can hold me and read on the Kindle. Let Mommy multi-task? Never! Never! :)

Projectile Spit-up

I just spat up and sneezed at the same time. Daddy was holding me, so I got him all over with my spit-up. I wish I had a picture of this. Mommy thought it was hilarious.

Shopping Trip and Aftermath

Today was the first time I went out shopping. Well, actually, Mommy and Daddy did the shopping. Daddy said I am still too small to go into the store with all the other people. So they swapped off to buy supplies at Target while I stayed in the car. Then Mommy went to another store to shop for clothing.

I was grouchy in the car. I don't like the car seat at all, but Mommy and Daddy insist that I sit in it.

I was pretty tired when I got back home.

Sleeping in Warm Arms

I'm driving Mommy crazy with the habit of needing to fall asleep while being held, and then waking up whenever I'm put into my pack and play.

I like sleeping while being held by warm arms. If you were a little baby, wouldn't you like it, too?

Crashing on the Boppy

Today I was mostly awake and fussy from 9am until 6pm. I didn't feel like taking a long nap. The longest I slept for was 20 minutes the whole day. If you were a week old and had so much to explore, you'd not want to sleep either! So Mommy and Daddy fed me around 5:30pm and let me continue sleeping on the Boppy to try not to wake me. I slept on the Boppy while Mommy read on the Kindle for 30 minutes. Then they transferred the Boppy slowly and gently to the side couch. It worked! I didn't wake up.

Contentment

This is me after finishing a meal. Mommy says I'm drunk on milk. Daddy says there are many monkeys that look more dignified than I do in this picture.

Sleeping, Unabashed

Mommy and daddy usually have me swaddled, but I like having my arms out when I sleep. Mommy calls me Houdini because even when they put a Halo Sleepsack velcro wrap around me, I can bust out like Houdini.

Nipple Issues

It's hard for me to go to sleep without something to suck on. Luckily I found something. Mommy says I am a big monkey since it's my own fourth finger and isn't comfortable, and I don't even know that it's my own finger.

Mommy and daddy gave me a pacifier. I'm not so sure about that. It's not as nice as the real thing, but it's something. The only problem is, it keeps on falling out and makes me fussy when that happens.

Early Morning Wedn. July 21

Today I'm one week old! I was a little fussy last night. Mommy took these pictures while trying for two and half hours to get me to go to sleep.

Sleeping in Daddy's Arms

First Trip to the Pediatrician's Office

Today I went to see my doctor for a regular check-up. They took my temperature from a place that's not comfortable... but I got the nurse back by pooping on her. They also did a bilirubin level check and that was ok. They measured my weight and said I was back up to my birth weight of 8 lb. and 10 oz. Mommy looked really happy about that. I'm only supposed to get back up to birth weight at 2 weeks old, so I'm ahead of schedule. The doctor did an exam of me and pinched and poked at my belly, which I didn't like at all. Mommy asked about some red patches on the back of my head, and the doctor said they were stork bites and were not a problem. She said I was very healthy and that I should just keep doing what I've been doing: eating and sleeping. My next doctor's visit is in a week.

Pictures of Me and Mommy and Daddy

Me with mommy and daddy. Several of mommy and daddy's friends have said they thought this was a great picture.

I'm lying down and daddy is cupping my feet. I'm not flashing gang signals - no, really, I'm not!

I'm sleeping.... so quit bothering me, mommy!

I'm awake and my eyes are open. This is a picture from when I was staying in the hospital with mommy and daddy.

My Birthday!

I'm now out of mommy's tummy! I was born on Wednesday July 14th at 9:51pm. I was 8 lb. 10 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long.

The first day, the doctors and nurses kept on poking me with needles and taking blood samples. I didn't like that very much. But now that we are home, I don't have to get tested anymore. That's nice.

Mommy's Tummy

Today is my due date! But I'm not coming out yet. I'm getting evicted tomorrow, though. Mommy's doctor doesn't want me staying inside mommy's tummy too much longer, so mommy is going to the hospital tomorrow night for an induction.

Today Mommy and Daddy took some more pictures of where I live now:

Mommy's tummy is big, but it's not that big, really. See what I mean? No wonder I feel very cramped. I won't mind coming out where there's so much more space. I can stretch and stretch as much as I want.

My Swing Set

This is a picture of my swing cradle which Aunt Joyce sent me. I can't wait to swing in it - Pookey Bunny looks awfully comfortable!

39 Weeks

I'm now 39 weeks old! I'm getting ready to leave mommy's tummy but I like where I'm at right now. It's warm and I get fed and rocked all the time. The only part I don't like so much is that it's a little cramped here. I don't like being tucked in, and neither does mommy. She hates that they always tuck in the sheets at hotels. It's too bad that the bigger I get, the more I'll get tucked in, since I wouldn't mind staying here for a little bit longer.

My Best Buddy

This is my best buddy, Pookey Bunny, hanging out with Daddy. We're going to have a lot of fun together!

This is a picture of Pookey Bunny that Daddy commissioned as an anniversary gift for Mommy this year. It hangs over my crib.

Sleeping Arrangements

This bassinet is where I'll be sleeping for the next two to three months after I leave mommy's tummy.

After that, I'll be sleeping in the crib that Grandma Lai got for me. I like the baby animal theme.
